Are you feeling stuck and confused about your career? Perhaps it's time to find your personal brand. This can be a difficult process, but it can help you find a job that is tailored to your talents and strengths. In this post, I'll walk through some questions to ask yourself so that you can get started on finding your personal brand.
When you think about your strengths, what comes to mind? Are you good at working with people? Do you have a knack for organization and planning? Is there a particular skill that comes easily to you that others struggle with?
You might not have thought about this before but it's important to know what makes up your personal brand. If we can't define ourselves then how will anyone else be able to identify who we are and what we stand for as individuals in the workplace or out of it (even if those workplaces aren't traditional ones).
Your strengths will help guide the direction of how people see and interact with who "you" really are!
While it's important to have a passion and be passionate about what you do, that doesn't mean that all of your interests will translate into a personal brand. You might find yourself loving running for the sake of running, but if there isn't any money in it or people are not interested in hearing about your training regimen, then this could be an area where your focus might need to shift.
Passion is important because it shows others how much time and energy you put into something--and if they like what they see (or hear), then they'll want more from you. For example: If someone were creating an ad campaign for Nike running shoes, then having someone who was passionate about running would help them create ads that speak directly to their audience with authority--and therefore make customers want those shoes even more!
The first step to finding your personal brand is identifying what you want to be known for. This can be anything from your work ethic, passion for a certain cause or community and even how you bring energy into a room.
Once you have an idea of what you want people to know about the "you" that exists inside the professional shell of who they may know today, it's time to identify what makes this person unique and special.
This is where it gets fun! You should start asking yourself questions such as: What do I value? How do I see myself influencing others around me? What are my strengths? Once again, these are not easy questions but they're important ones if we're going towards defining our personal brands so let's dive right in!
What is your personal brand? It's the thing that makes you stand out from the crowd. It's what makes people want to hire you, buy from you, or be friends with you.
Your personal brand is your identity--the way in which people perceive and define who you are based on their experience with your work and how they feel about it. In order for this definition to be accurate, it must reflect both who YOU think YOU are as well as what OTHERS think YOU are (including potential customers). Your personal brand needs to be visible across all channels so that anyone can find out more about who YOU are quickly.
You don't have to do all of this at once. We know it can be overwhelming, but we also believe that if you take small steps and focus on one part at a time, you'll get there. Remember: You are not alone! The world is full of people who want to help others find their personal brand and make it shine--including us here at Buffer.
